Mediacorp Rotax Max 2015! Snr Manhunt 2014 – Guest Blogger!

I was invited by the beautiful Celestia Faith Chong to attend Rotax Max Singapore 2015 organized by MediaCorp OOH Media from 9 to 11 October, at the Singapore Sports Hub. This inaugural event comprises two segments of differing nature, MediaCorp Rotax Max Singapore Open 2015, a motor-sport league and the first kart-racing competition on the public streets of Singapore, as well as Urban Wheels Challenge, an urban gravity cycling competition.
I arrived at the Singapore Sports Hub in the morning, not knowing what to expect as this was my first time attending such an event.  As I alighted from the cab, I was drawn to the sound of the kart racing.
I walked over to the course and I was squinting at the karts as it was really a hot day and not believing my eyes as I saw young kids racing professionally around the course.  I stood there and watched in amazement.
Then I felt a tap on my shoulders, I turned around and saw Celestia smiling at me. She pulled me towards the Monster Energy booth where 2 pretty brand ambassadors offered me a can of the tasty wake-up drink.

After being energised, I was led to the Auto Gymkhana. This motor sport is a test of the driver’s good foundation of basic motoring skills, using them to cruise between high-level obstacles such as cones, tight donut-boxes as well as figure of eights. I was sceptical about going for the ride as I have motion sickness but then as I watched the daring Celestia boarded the racing car, I was determined to give it a try.

Celestia’s drift was really long (she must have confused the driver to extend her joyride with her long legs) and she seem to be having a ball of a time. I decided to take pictures of myself with the racing cars before the ride (just in case I get nausea lol).

When Celestia came out of the car, she still maintained her posture …. Then came my turn, I put on the helmet, took a picture with the driver before he took off. I had my phone video on and I could feel my adrenaline pumping as the driver drifted along; definitely no time for nausea.

After the drift, Celestia and I interviewed the drivers and of course took a picture with them.

The Urban Wheels Challenge, an event organised by MediaCorp’s OOH Media, is a cycling competition with a challenging course designed to mimic the outdoor terrain but in an urban setting. Targeting the cycling community at large, the race allows experienced gravity riders to compete against their peers, as well as for the first-timers to experience the thrills and adrenaline rush of an urban gravity race at a venue that many looked forward to racing in.

Having the longest urban circuit with the most number of obstacles, the Urban Wheels Challenge features a challenging urban gravity race course at a world-class venue, Singapore Sports Hub.

While racers enjoy the challenging race routes, audiences can expect fun and family friendly activities such as a best trick side event, entertaining stage segments, best dressed competition, celebrity meet and greet sessions, a mini pump track clinic and the Urban Wheels Village featuring many attractive offers and product demos to cater to all cycling enthusiasts.

Mr Suhaimi Haj, President of the Singapore Cycling Federation said, “Our objective is to encourage, promote, organize, develop the art of Cycling in Singapore and the Urban Wheels Challenge organized by MediaCorp OOH Media provides us with a great platform for us to do so.”

It was a star-studded event with Mediacorp’s actors James Seah, Nick Teo, Alfred Sim, Jeffrey Xu gracing the event. Radio DJs Jamie Yeo (Gold90.5), Zaza Majid (Warna), Mike Kasem (Gold90.5), Dzar Ismail (RIA 897FM) were also there to grace the event.

The event ended with the prize giving ceremony whereby prizes was given to the various categories of the races. I am honoured to interview a few of the winners and getting to share their moment in time and their racing experience.
